Dedryck Boyata was handed a starting place for Celtic when they took on their Glasgow rivals, Rangers, yesterday.
Chris Sutton has told the Daily Record that Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata simply cannot be trusted by Brendan Rodgers.
Boyata was handed a starting role for Celtic against Rangers yesterday, but he looked shaky throughout.
The former Manchester City man made an error in the first-half, which went unpunished, when he allowed Martyn Waghorn through on goal.
And Boyata generally looked shaky throughout, with Sutton suggesting that the powerful centre-back cannot be a regular starter next season for Rodgers’ side.
“Well for a start, despite the praise he’s been enjoying in recent weeks, Dedryck Boyata still worries the life out of me,” Sutton said, following the 1-1 draw in the Old-Firm derby.
“Erik Sviatchenko beside him looked a bit shaky as well and that’s an important lesson for Brendan Rodgers before they go into the Champions League qualifiers next season. Boyata cannot be trusted.”
Boyata began this campaign well out of starting contention for Celtic, but he has impressed in recent weeks.
The 26-year-old has become a part of Celtic’s starting line-up lately, but question marks do still linger over him after his display against Rangers.
Celtic’s draw with Rangers means that they weren’t able to put any further distance between themselves and their Glasgow rivals, but they are still 33 points ahead of Pedro Caixinha’s men.
