Chris Sutton has branded Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata “a disgrace” after it was reported that he had refused to play for the Hoops in a bid to move away from the club.

The Scottish Sun reported that 27-year-old Boyata will not sign a new contract at Celtic despite entering the final 12 months of his deal, and has not joined the Celtic squad who have jetted out to Greece to play AEK Athens.

It is believed that Boyata is unhappy at Celtic’s decision to reject a move to Fulham after the west Londoners made a £9million bid, while the Daily Record claim Sevilla and Lazio are keen on the World Cup defender.

Brendan Rodgers was keen to have Boyata available with Kristoffer Ajer suspended for Tuesday night’s clash, but instead the Belgian has opted against playing – claiming he is inhjured. Sutton reacted on Twitter in a nonchalant manner.

Joining Celtic from Manchester City in the summer of 2015, Boyata has gone on to make 103 appearances in all competitions for the Scottish giants – returning an impressive 14 goals.

He has helped Celtic win their last three Scottish Premiership titles, but the chances of him remaining at Celtic look slim with his contract expiring next summer and the powerhouse defender unwilling to sign a new deal.
