Arsenal manager Unai Emery is coming under more pressure with results and performances not improving in recent weeks.

BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton has been left utterly perplexed that Jose Mourinho’s name is being touted for the Arsenal job.

As reported by Sky Sports, Arsenal have had to deny that meetings have taken place between head of football Raul Sanllehi and Mourinho himself.

Whether or not Mourinho is heading to the Emirates, one thing is for sure, Emery is feeling the heat from supporters, for results, performances, tactics and his man-management of certain players.

Speaking to The Monday Night Club on BBC Radio 5 Live (04/11/19 at 8:10 pm), former Premier League winner, Sutton questioned whether talks that Mourinho being tipped for Arsenal were ‘serious’ or not.

On whether he would replace Mourinho with Emery: “Oh, don’t be ridiculous,” Sutton told Radio 5 Live. “Is this serious? A guy who serially mocked Arsenal and Arsene Wenger for many years, ‘specialist in failure’.

“And a guy who spent millions at Manchester United and lost his mojo. Upset everybody and the players weren’t playing for him. And replace him with Emery, who I don’t think he has had a fair crack of the whip, anyway.

“Do I think things are going swimmingly well? No. But were they under the last five, six, seven years of Wenger’s reign? It’s going to take time. But replace him with Mourinho? Where does that come from?”

What hasn’t helped Emery’s cause at the Emirates is that he decided to completely freeze out fan favourite Mesut Ozil for large periods of this season.

Whilst it is a bold decision to take, Arsenal have to back it up with results and performances, and they simply didn’t.

Ironically enough, the North London club, along with their defensive problems, were missing that spark in the final third, as Ozil has returned to first-team action recently.
