How Celtic’s new faces settle in over the season will be worth keeping an eye on.
Several of them arrived after a goalless draw against Rangers, and many fans still are not convinced by how the club handled their summer business.
Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has not held back either, regularly criticising the decisions made by those in charge at Celtic Park. But even he admits there is one move from this window that stands out above the rest.
Chris Sutton names Benjamin Nygren as the standout signing of the summer

It was widely anticipated that Benjamin Nygren would challenge for a spot on Celtic’s right flank, particularly after Nicolas Kuhn’s transfer to Como in Italy.
However, Brendan Rodgers has mainly deployed him as a midfielder, with the exception of the Glasgow derby, and Sutton believes he has ‘fitted in well’ in that role.
When asked on the Warm-Up podcast who his early pick for signing of the summer is, Sutton was quick to highlight Nygren.
“I think the obvious one, early days,” said Sutton. “You know me, I don’t like to get carried away. I am not that shallow. Nygren. He’s been good, hasn’t he?
“Well, I mean, he’s sort of fitted in well and scored a few goals. So, I would, yeah, say Benjamin Nygren.”
Nygren’s start to life at Celtic
Arne Engels, who set a club record for his transfer fee, spent much of last season starting in the middle of the park alongside Reo Hatate and Callum McGregor.
This time around, though, he found himself on the bench from the start. Nygren stepped into that number eight role for the opening match of the season and has held it since.
Even before the campaign kicked off, Nygren had looked sharp during pre-season. That form has carried over into competitive action, with Celtic sitting top of the table after four matches.
- Nygren’s WhoScored rating vs St Mirren: 6.71

- vs Livingston: 9.48
- vs Rangers: 6.95
