Chris Sutton backs Celtic to sign John McGinn, suggests he’s better value than Davy Klaassen

Celtic have been backed to sign Hibernian midfielder John McGinn.

Pundit Chris Sutton has told BT Sport (25/10/2017) that he thinks Celtic should be moving to sign Hibernian midfielder John McGinn in 2018.

The Bhoys hammered Aberdeen 3-0 on Wednesday night to continue their domestic dominance, just days after beating Hibernian 4-2 in the Scottish League Cup semi-final at Hampden Park.

Brendan Rodgers’ men continue to impress, and whilst he already has a strong squad at his disposal, he may well be looking for more new faces in the January transfer window.

Scottish players would no doubt be attracted by a move to Celtic anyway, but Rodgers’ work developing the likes of Kieran Tierney, Callum McGregor, Stuart Armstrong, James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths means Scottish talents may look to join Celtic rather than moving south of the border.

One player often touted for a move to England is Hibernian midfielder John McGinn, who has starred for the Edinburgh side since joining from St Mirren in 2015.

The 23-year-old midfielder has already earned four caps for Scotland, and has hit 13 goals in more than 100 games for Hibernian, serving as a key part of Neil Lennon’s side.

McGinn has been linked with a host of clubs, and pundit Chris Sutton has told BT Sport (25/10/2017) that he would like to see Celtic make a move to sign him – even if he costs £5million.

Sutton feels that McGinn is far better value at £5million than Everton’s expensive summer signing Davy Klaassen, and given that he is backing McGinn for a great career, he wants to see Celtic snap him up – despite already having midfielders such as Scott Brown, Nir Bitton, Stuart Armstrong, Callum McGregor, Eboue Kouassi and Tom Rogic.

“When you look at the big money moves down south, the likes of Davy Klaassen and how poor he has been at Everton this season, and what are we talking about, £5million for McGinn?” said Sutton. “That boy is going places. Hibs are going to do really well to hang on to him. You know, if I were Celtic, I would snap him up – I would!” he added.
