Glasgow Rangers are reportedly considering a move to try and bring John McGinn to Ibrox during the summer.

McGinn appears to be one of the most highly sought-after midfielders in the Scottish Premiership, having been a key player for a Hibs side that has taken little time to establish themselves back amongst the key players in the top flight 12 months after being promoted.

The Daily Record reported this week that Rangers had joined the race to sign the £5 million-rated 23-year-old, with director of football Mark Allen sending scouts to have a look at the Hibs ace. But when asked whether he could see McGinn heading to Rangers, Sutton hinted that he would imagine that joining the Gers would not be the midfielder’s first choice option.
“No, because I don’t think he’ll go to Rangers,” he told BT Sport, when asked whether he could see the move happening. “I wouldn’t have thought that Rangers would be his preference because I think he’s from a Celtic background.”

As Sutton alluded to, McGinn has connections with Celtic with The Scottish Sun reporting that he had a Parkhead season ticket for 15 years, while his grandfather used to be the Hoops’ chairman.
Of course, those allegiances may influence his decision perhaps if the battle for his signature comes down to the two Old Firm sides, but it must not be forgotten that moving to Ibrox this summer would give McGinn the chance to work with one of the best midfielders the world has seen since the turn of the Millennium.
Gerrard’s arrival is undoubtedly going to give the Gers much more pulling power in the transfer market, and perhaps there would be few greater examples of that than if they manage to convince McGinn to head to Rangers despite his Celtic connections.
