Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard reportedly wants former Gers striker Kyle Lafferty at Ibrox.
Rangers are reportedly interested in signing Kyle Lafferty in the summer transfer window, but former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has suggested that the forward would not be a great signing for the Ibrox club, as quoted by The Scottish Sun.
Ibrox club Rangers have seen their initial offer of £300,000 for the Heart of Midlothian forward turned down, with their Scottish Premiership rivals valuing the former Norwich City man at £750,000, according to The Express.
Former Celtic striker and well-known pundit Sutton does not think that the Northern Ireland international would be a great signing for Rangers, and he has also suggested that the forward should think carefully before joining the Gers.
Michael Stewart, who was at Rangers as a youth player and played for Manchester United and Hearts among other clubs, thinks that Lafferty would be a good addition to Steven Gerrard’s side.
The Scottish Sun quotes Sutton as saying: “I think that Lafferty, for Rangers fans honestly… I know his past, he scores in big games.
“I think where Rangers are going with Stevie G coming in, I think that would be pretty underwhelming.
“I think the key thing is, he needs to play regularly. He needs to think seriously. He may want to go back, for sentimental reasons.”
The Scottish Sun quotes Stewart as saying: “I’ve got to disagree. When you look at the other players being brought into Rangers, I think Kyle Lafferty would be a fantastic signing.”
Proven goalscorer
Lafferty did well during his spell at Rangers from 2008 until 2012, and the forward played well for Hearts last season.
While Rangers do have Alfredo Morelos and Umar Sadiq, a player of Lafferty’s quality and experience would be a good signing for Steven Gerrard’s side.
