Lee Congerton is reportedly considering leaving Celtic amid interest from elsewhere.

Pundit and ex-Celtic player Chris Sutton looks on prior to the Betfred Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden Park on December 2, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Chris Sutton has joined a number of Celtic fans in commenting on Twitter after reports emerged from The Scottish Sun this week suggesting that Lee Congerton is set to quit the club following Brendan Rodgers’s exit.

Rodgers, of course, departed to take the job at Leicester City, much to the surprise of many of the Celtic supporters. But while many of the Parkhead faithful may have been disappointed to lose their now former boss, Congerton’s potential departure looks set to be met with a completely different reaction.

Congerton has spent two years as Celtic’s head of recruitment. The Scottish Sun reports that he played a key role in bringing the likes of Olivier Ntcham, Filip Benkovic and Odsonne Edouard to the club.

However, the report adds that he also oversaw the deals for the likes of Marvin Compper and Charly Musonda, which certainly helps explain why many of the Hoops supporters on social media are not expressing much disappointment at the prospect of his exit.

Charly Musonda of Celtic shoots at goal during the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Heart of Midlothian at Celtic Park on January 30, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Scottish Sun suggests that he is attracting attention from Belgium, the Bundesliga and Major League Soccer, and is looking set to leave the Scottish Premiership champions.

Former Hoops striker Sutton suggested that the rumours have come as no shock to him. Sutton has been critical of Congerton’s work during his time with the club, so he may well feel that this could be good news.

Many of the fans certainly see the positive side of another key backroom figure walking away. Here is Sutton’s tweet, as well as some of the best fan reaction…
