Sam Allardyce is reportedly set to be announced as Everton manager.
Outspoken pundit Chris Sutton has claimed on Twitter that Sam Allardyce is the only man capable keeping Everton in the Premier League as he looks set to be announced as the new Toffees boss.
Everton confirmed they are close to announcing the former England manager as Ronald Koeman’s successor, despite previous negotiations breaking down between the two parties earlier this month.
The 63-year-old is now set to take over in what will be his seventh spell in charge of a Premier League side after taking control of Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United, Sunderland, West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Blackburn Rovers in England’s top flight.
Sutton responded to reports suggesting Allardyce’s arrival is imminent, claiming that his appointment is the only way the Toffees can avoid relegation into the Championship.
Interim manager David Unsworth is set to remain in charge for Wednesday night’s clash against West Ham United in the Premier League, as he looks to restore some dignity to his short reign as caretaker boss.
Unsworth has seen his side lose five of his seven games in charge to the likes of Chelsea, Leicester City and Southampton, winning just once against Watford. Now, he could achieve a second win against former manager David Moyes.
Three points for what is likely to be Allardyce’s new side could see them climb into 14th place in the Premier League, if West Bromwich Albion, Stoke City and Bournemouth all drop points.
