Sunderland have won three of their last four Premier League matches.

Chris Sutton has told Match of the Day, which was broadcast on BBC One on 3rd December, that he got it wrong about Sunderland after their start to the season.

Sutton classed Sunderland as relegation certainties earlier in the campaign, after they failed to win any of their first 10 league matches.

However, David Moyes’ side have enjoyed a resurgence in recent weeks – and they have begun to edge towards safety.

Sunderland are now up in 18th place in the Premier League table, after winning three of their last four matches.

The Black Cats are just one point away from safety, and they are enjoying a great run of form.

Sutton admits that Moyes’ side are now in with a genuine chance of surviving, and he says that he wrote them off too soon.

“To be honest, I’d written them off. I thought they were going to get relegated, but they have belief now. Anichebe has been sensational and Defoe is a goalscorer. Credit to Sunderland,” Sutton said.

Sunderland’s latest victory came against Leicester City at the Stadium of Light, and it was hard fought.

The Black Cats grabbed a 2-0 lead – thanks to an own goal from Robert Huth and a strike from Jermain Defoe – and even though Leicester hit back late on to set up a nervy finish, Sunderland held on to claim the three points.
