Chris Martin has scored just one goal in his last seven outings for Derby County.
Chris Martin has told Derby County’s official site that Paul Clement has been very honest with him in their meetings.
Martin admits that he has been frustrated with many of his own performances this season, as he has not scored as frequently as he was hoping.
The 26-year-old has netted only once in his last seven matches, but he says Clement has been great at making sure he remains confident.
“It’s been a slightly frustrating time for me in front of goal,” Martin said. “The one good thing from my point of view is that we have still been picking up results.
“That’s something the head coach has spoken very honestly to me about and he has told me that I have still been contributing.
“It’s not all about scoring goals as a striker. Of course it’s brilliant to score them and contribute to wins, but you have to be able to assist in other ways as well.”
Derby have a huge amount of attacking options, but Martin has established himself as the side’s number one striker.
The Scotland international has shown a great ability to bring others into play and his performances have helped the Rams climb the Championship table at a rapid rate.
Derby have lost just one of their last 15 outings and they currently sit in fourth place in the second tier standings.
Derby take on relegation-threatened Bristol City this evening, and if they are able to pick up a victory they could move into the automatic promotion spots, which would represent significant progress after their slow start.
