Defensive colossus Christian Maghoma has sent a heartfelt message to Tottenham Hotspur fans on Instagram as he confirmed he had joined Polish top-tier side Arka Gdynia.

The 20-year-old was released by Mauricio Pochettino’s side at the end of the 2017-18 campaign, as his contract was due to expire on June 30. He joined the likes of Ryan Loft, Joe Pritchard and Luke O’Reilly in leaving the club.

The 6ft 5in centre-back failed to make a single appearance for Spurs’ senior side, but was a regular fixture of their second string – making 19 Premier league 2 appearances for the north Londoners last season.

Maghoma took to Instagram to confirm his Spurs departure and a surprise venture into Polish football, thanking Spurs fans and his former teammates after his 12-year Tottenham spell comes to an end.

It was always going to be a tall order for Maghoma to break into the first team, with the likes of Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez, Juan Foyth, Eric Dier and Cameron Carter-Vickers all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Maghoma will now be looking to help his new side avoid relegation from the Ekstraklasa, after they finished in 12th place out of 16 teams last term – only six points above the drop zone.
