The Sunderland goalkeeper has been in fine form for the Black Cats this season.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirkland has told BT Sport he told Liverpool to sign Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford last summer.

Pickford has established himself as the Black Cats number one this season following an injury to Vito Mannone at the beginning of the campaign.

Despite Sunderland’s poor first half of the campaign he has impressed, earning rave reviews from both fans and pundits for his performances.

He has subsequently been linked with a move away from the Stadium of Light, with David Moyes admitting that his side may not be able to resist any big money bids should they arrive.

Indeed, a move in January could be on the cards and Kirkland says he was advising one team to make a move last summer.

“I told Liverpool to sign him last summer,” he told BT Sport.

“He will have all of the top clubs looking at him – not just in England, but in Europe as well.”

“He definitely won’t be there [at Sunderland] next summer. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is not there come January.”

There are certainly likely to be clubs thinking about a move for Pickford in the January transfer window.

His performances for Sunderland so far have been impressive; to say the least, and that will not have gone unnoticed.

Liverpool are unlikely to be one of the clubs interested, though, despite the recent problems with Loris Karius.

The German very much has the faith of manager Jurgen Klopp and that makes Anfield an unlikely destination.
