Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino was recently charged by the FA.

Referee Mike Dean looks on during the Premier League match between Burnley FC and Tottenham Hotspur at Turf Moor on February 23, 2019 in Burnley, United Kingdom.

Chris Kirkland has made it clear that referee Mike Dean is to blame for the incident involving Mauricio Pochettino after Tottenham’s defeat at Burnley over the weekend.

Pochettino confronted Dean in the middle of the pitch after the full-time whistle because he was unhappy with the officiating on the day, with the Spurs boss also seemingly angered by something that was said to him.

Nonetheless, the Argentine was constantly told to ‘go away’ by Dean, but his reaction did not sit well with former Premier League goalkeeper Kirkland.

Speaking to the Football Centre on Sky Sports News (25/02/2019 at 11:40 am), Kirkland stated that Dean could have handled the situation a lot better as Spurs fans will love his comments.

“What has angered [Pochettino] is when [Dean] was saying, ‘go away, go away’ as if he can’t talk to him,” Kirkland told Sky Sports News. “If Mike had said, ‘listen, I’ll talk to you but let’s do it inside in the changing room’ then he [Pochettino] would walked away.

“He [Dean] is just saying, ‘go away, go away’, which it could be seen as saying, ‘well, I don’t have to speak to you’. So, I think he [Dean] could have handled it a lot better and defused that situation a lot quicker.”

Since then, Pochettino has been charged by the FA for improper conduct following that mini row with Dean, as reported by Sky Sports.

While Tottenham will be disappointed with the defeat, Burnley’s opening goal was controversial because the corner which led to Chris Wood’s header, should not have been given.

Added with that, the dropped points put another dent in Spurs’ chances of winning the Premier League title as they are now six points behind leaders Liverpool in the table.

On Wednesday night, they travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea after they lost a dramatic League Cup final against Manchester City over the weekend.
