Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton has stated that two of his former sides are the Seagulls’ biggest threat this season.

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton has commented on which sides will pose the biggest threat to their promotion push this season, with two of them being his former clubs, as reported by The Argus.

The Seagulls have made a flying start to their Championship campaign, and a lot of that can be put down to the underrated work of manager Hughton.

The 57-year-old has done a solid job at pretty much every club of which he has been in charge, and he looks set to guide his current side to another play-off campaign.

Brighton currently find themselves in third with just two losses from their opening 13 league games, and given the attention that sides around them are getting the Seagulls are quietly flying under the radar, something which will suit Hughton and company just fine.

Hughton told The Argus: “Norwich and Newcastle, with what they are and because of the starts they’ve had, you don’t see them losing so many games.

“If Villa and Derby had started as well, you might have thought exactly the same about them as well, but that gap between the clubs is a decent sized gap. I think Norwich and Newcastle are the ones to catch.

“Norwich have know-how and the team to be able to do it and Newcastle have arguably the strongest squad that this division has ever seen.

“There are still possibilities to change, ins and outs, and we’ve got make sure that with every game that we play we see it as an opportunity to stay and perhaps create distance between us and the teams outside the top six.”

As many people know Hughton has managed both the Canaries and the Magpies, with some believing that he did not get enough recognition for the work he did – especially at St. James’ Park.

Now Brighton will look ahead to their immediate future as they attempt to keep up their momentum, starting with a trip to the DW Stadium to face Wigan Athletic.
