Chris Gotterup is one of several Americans aiming to catch Keegan Bradley’s eye as the Ryder Cup selection process continues.
Brian Harman and Harris English both caught Bradley’s attention during The Open, each entering the final round inside the top 10.
While Bradley was also in contention, it was Scottie Scheffler who walked away with the title in Northern Ireland.
After a solid win at the Scottish Open – his second PGA Tour title after the Myrtle Beach Classic – Gotterup followed it up with a third-place finish at The Open, delivering another impressive performance.
Dan Rapaport backs Chris Gotterup to replace Patrick Cantlay in Ryder Cup team

Chris Gotterup’s form hasn’t gone unnoticed, and Dan Rapaport has been talking about his chances of making the Ryder Cup team.
Speaking on the ‘Dan on Golf’ podcast, he said: “Some of the guys who we talked about being absolute locks to be on the Ryder Cup and there are two who jump to mind, one of them is Collin Morikawa and one of them is Patrick Cantlay.
“I still think Collin is a lock. I think Collin has earned it with his two major wins and he has had two seconds this year.
“He is going through a bit of a rough patch but I think of Collin in a different category than I think of Cantlay. I am officially demoting Cantlay away from being a lock on the Ryder Cup team.

“He finished tied for 36th at The Masters, he finished right in the middle of the pack, and making the cut at The Masters is not really an accomplishment when you have all the amateurs and the past champions.
“He has missed the cut in the next three majors. I know he has been solid, he has been an ATM once again in the non-majors and signature events, but you can’t keep laying eggs in big tournaments and expect us just to not care.
“And Chris Gotterup if you look at his results recently, he has got another win this summer which was earlier this summer.”
The 25-year-old will turn 26 next week as he looks to continue his strong campaign during this period where so many players will be eager to catch Bradley’s attention.
Cantlay sliding down US rankings after another tough outing
The American may have taken solo third place after finishing on 12-under-par – one shot behind English – but five back from champion Scheffler.
| Rank | Player | Points |

| 3 | J.J. Spaun | 12478.91 |
| 4 | Russell Henley | 11623.82 |
| 5 | Bryson DeChambeau | 10774.98 |
| 6 | Harris English | 10385.65 |
| 7 | Justin Thomas | 10208.09 |
| 8 | Collin Morikawa | 9743.61 |

| 10 | Keegan Bradley | 8038.50 |
| 14 | Patrick Cantlay | 6069.39 |
| 22 | Chris Gotterup | 4183.14 |
Cantlay could only manage three-over par as he failed to make it through into Saturday’s action.
Before The Open began, Cantlay was labelled as arguably being one of golf’s best players without winning a major championship so far. He remains under that title following yet another disappointing result where he was not able to make much noise across four days at Portrush.
The eight-time PGA Tour champion now sits 14th in the US Ryder Cup standings, while Gotterup has surged 19 spots to reach 22nd.
