The Hoops have conceded seven goals in five games in the league so far.
Celtic assistant Chris Davies has told the club’s official website that they must become a team that can win games by one goal if they are to become champions again.
The Hoops have started the season on fire under Brendan Rodgers, leading the table by three points after five games and they could expand that gap to six points should they win their game in hand.
The most notable factor about their play has been their attacking power, with them already scoring 17 goals.
Defensively they have shown their weakness, though, conceding seven goals so far.
That came back to haunt them at the weekend as Inverness Caledonian Thistle managed to secure a 2-2 draw.
Improving that area of the team must be a priority and Davies has had his say on the matter.
“What we’ve got to be as a champion team is a team that can win by one goal,” he told the club’s official website.
“Of course we can do that, but if we’re not quite finishing off the chances or the goalkeeper is having a special day then we are resilient at the other end and ensure we win by one goal.”
It remains to be seen if Rodgers can improve Celtic’s defence moving forward.
That area of the team has been a weak point for them for a number of years and is very much something he inherited from former boss Ronny Deila.
He does not have a strong history of working on defences, though, with his Liverpool team’s frailties in that area arguably costing them the title.
If he can fix it at Celtic Park, it will at least show he has learned the lessons from his Anfield reign.
