Lee Cattermole has been woefully out of form for Sunderland in recent weeks.

Sunderland boss Chris Coleman’s comments to the Chronicle are surely bad news for Lee Cattermole.

Cattermole was in abject form at the weekend, as Sunderland lost 3-1 against Reading.

The midfielder was jeered by his own supporters during the contest, with Sunderland fans very frustrated by his performances.

And Coleman’s suggestions that he will make changes, is likely to mean Cattermole is at risk of being dropped.

“We need to be brave. Is that me being brave and changing a lot of it round? Maybe it is,” Coleman said. “I am not afraid to do that if I think we have to, but something needs to change, that’s clear.

“Maybe I might give one or two (of the experienced players) a rest from it all, the pressure situation they find themselves in.

“I thought the kids did quite well, there’s less pressure on them because less is expected of them. They definitely gave us a little bit of energy and played with less fear.”

Sunderland actually had gone into their game against Reading with some momentum, after winning against Burton Albion, but their poor home form continued.

After Callum McManaman was shown a red card, Sunderland were taken apart by the Royals in concerning fashion.

The Black Cats have now slipped back down to 23rd in the Championship table, with their next match coming against top of the league, Wolverhampton Wanderers.
