Sunderland strikers Joel Asoro and Josh Maja have shown signs of promise this season.

Chris Coleman has told the Shields Gazette that Joel Asoro and Josh Maja will be kept at Sunderland, regardless of what division they are in next season.

Coleman has confirmed that none of Sunderland’s experienced players will be offered new contracts until their fate is decided.

The Black Cats currently sit at the bottom of the Championship table, and will be relying on a great escape if they are to be playing in the second tier again next season.

Sunderland have a number of players set to depart at the end of the term, and their futures are not going to be sorted any time soon.

However, Coleman has confirmed that Asoro and Maja, whose deals expire next year, are part of the club’s plans for the future.

“Obviously, Joel and Josh, we see their future as being here and the best thing for them is to stay with us and progress,” Coleman said. “We want to give both players long term deals, and I think both of them want to stay and play.”

Asoro and Maja have proven to be two of the bright sparks in an awful season for Sunderland.

The academy graduates have been given first-team chances, and not looked out of place.

Sunderland are next in action in two weekends’ time, when they take on Derby County at Pride Park.
