Chris Coleman suggests Sunderland’s players aren’t taking enough shots

Sunderland have had the second fewest amount of shots in the Championship.

Chris Coleman has told the Sunderland Echo that Sunderland’s players simply aren’t taking on enough shots.

Sunderland have been in abject form so far this season, and their struggles at the Stadium of Light continued last weekend.

The Black Cats have still not won a home game throughout the entirety of 2017, and were beaten 3-1 by Reading in their latest outing in front of their own supporters.

Sunderland players’ confidence is now understandably very low, and Coleman feels this is leading to his side not taking on enough attempts to score.

The Welsh boss said: “We got a goal and then we had one or two situations where for whatever reason we were reluctant to pull the trigger.

“We shouldn’t be. We should have a shot, but we don’t we seem to be always looking for that perfect moment which never comes.

“There are a lot of things for us to think about, the players have been here many, many times.”

Coleman’s statement is backed up by the facts, which show Sunderland have had the second fewest total number of attempts of any Championship side.

Sunderland have taken just 209 shots this season, with Burton Albion the only team to have had fewer shots.

Coleman is in desperate need to spark an improvement in his new side’s form, as Sunderland simply cannot waste any more time finding their feet at Championship level.

The Black Cats are currently in 23rd position in the Championship table, and risk being cut adrift unless they can find some form in the coming weeks.

Sunderland are next in action at the weekend, when they take on top of the table Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.
