Sunderland wide-man Aiden McGeady scored against Bristol City last weekend.
Chris Coleman has hinted that Aiden McGeady will be recalled to Sunderland’s starting line-up against Brentford tomorrow, in the Sunderland Echo.
McGeady has not started in any of Sunderland’s last five league matches, but he helped the Black Cats turn around their last contest against Bristol City.
Sunderland scored three second-half goals against the Robins to come back from 3-0 down to claim a point.
McGeady scored Sunderland’s second goal on that occasion, and it seems that the Republic of Ireland international will now be given the nod to start against Brentford.
McGeady has been highly inconsistent for Sunderland this term, and Coleman has admitted that he wants to see the winger protected more by his teammates.
“He came on for most of the second half and offensively he was right into it,” Coleman said.
“He was very direct, not getting caught holding the ball for too long, he got passes off, switching the play. He showed great imagination, he was very quick in his thinking.
“He’s a matchwinner on his day, of course he is, but we need more days.
“We need him at this best tomorrow, and he needs to roll his sleeves up and be part of the team even if things aren’t coming off for him. Then those around him need to protect him because he has that ability to create something.”
McGeady has scored six goals and created three assists in 23 Championship appearances for Sunderland this season.
The Black Cats will be relying on the wide-man to find his form over the back-end of the campaign now, as they need his creativity.
Despite Sunderland’s heroics last weekend, they are still in the relegation zone, and badly need to put together a run of wins.
