Joel Asoro has not started in any of Sunderland’s last four matches.
Asoro has been a bright spot in what has been a miserable campaign for the Black Cats so far, with the forward showing his quality.
The 18-year-old has coped well at Championship level, with his pace and trickery causing defences problems.
There is now great excitement about Asoro’s potential at Sunderland, but he has been used sparingly of late.
The Swede has not started in any of Sunderland’s last four matches, and he has been left on the bench for his side’s last two outings.
But Coleman has suggested that Asoro could come back into his starting line-up for the remainder of the campaign.
He said: “With Joel, he picked up a knock. He is only 18 himself and we have to be very careful about using him as our go-to every time we are in a bit of trouble.
“He’s a young lad and his form will go up and down, but he has that lightning pace and he’s exciting.
“We may use him on Saturday [at Reading] and in the remaining games because he has that fearless approach because he is a young boy.”
Sunderland have recently offered Asoro a new contract, in the hope of tying the youngster down for the future.
Sunderland look likely to be playing League One football next season, and Asoro could be a stand out talent in the third division.
