Sunderland have won twice at home all season in the Championship.
Chris Coleman has suggested to The Shields Gazette that Sunderland should be relieved that their next Championship game comes away from home.
The Black Cats slumped to a demoralising 3-0 defeat by Aston Villa at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday for a result that keeps them rooted to the foot of the Championship, four points adrift of safety at the moment.
Normally it can be a relegation-threatened side’s home form that keeps them in a division, but that might not be the case for Sunderland whose record on Wearside is nothing short of abysmal.
The North-East outfit have managed to win just twice at the Stadium of Light this season, and Coleman intimates that Saturday’s trip to QPR is something of a relief.
“We have a game in four days and we have to lift ourselves for it. The saving grace is it is away from home, we struggle so badly here. It is of our own doing,” he told The Shields Gazette.
The fact that Coleman seems to be more optimistic about away games basically sums up Sunderland’s dreadful home form and if they’re relying on wins on the road then they might as well prepare for League One now.
The Black Cats have 10 more Championship games to save their skins, but they also face very difficult away days in the form of Derby County, Leeds and Fulham over the coming months and it’s growing increasingly difficult to see them surviving this season.
