Leeds United’s Bailey Peacock-Farrell won praise from Sunderland boss Chris Coleman yesterday.

Speaking to Leeds Live, Sunderland boss Chris Coleman has singled out Leeds United goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell for praise after Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Elland Road.

Leeds held the struggling Black Cats to a point in West Yorkshire yesterday as Pablo Hernandez’s equaliser on 72 minutes cancelled out Paddy McNair’s opener shortly after the half-time break.

But United have their young goalkeeper to thank for even winning a point, with Peacock-Farrell pulling off a brilliant reflex save to keep out Ashley Fletcher’s header in the final 15 minutes.

And Coleman admitted to Leeds Live that he was impressed by the 21-year-old academy product.

“What a save that is, yes. What a save. There’s nothing wrong with the header, it’s on target, point-blank, bosh, great save.

“It was an incredible save, but yes, he looked good. He played well.”

Peacock-Farrell did indeed play well and for the first time this season it looks like Leeds have a bit of security between the posts.

Felix Wiedwald made a mistake on his Whites debut back in August and, despite the odd good performance, never looked worthy of the £500,000 that was paid out on him last summer, while Andy Lonergan also proved insufficient when he displaced the German in the first half of the season under Thomas Christiansen.

Despite Peacock-Farrell looking the business, Leeds still need a better option than Lonergan and Wiedwald this summer, someone to make the young keeper improve because, at the moment, he is comfortably ahead of both.
