John O’Shea has featured in every Sunderland match which Chris Coleman has taken charge of to date.

Chris Coleman has told the Sunderland Echo that he has been very impressed by John O’Shea ever since he took charge at the Stadium of Light.

O’Shea has started every match that Coleman has taken charge of to date, and the Republic of Ireland international was in impressive form at the weekend.

O’Shea helped Sunderland pick up a 0-0 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

And Coleman’s performances and attitude in training have really caught his eye, since he took charge.

“Everyone else sees the finished article on the pitch,” Coleman said.

“But I see him during the week, in training, and in the dressing room, with the younger players.

“He is very calm, he is an intelligent boy and we will need that calmness and that professionalism.

“No one is better at that than John O’Shea, I promise you. He has been fabulous from the first day I walked into the club.”

Sunderland’s 0-0 draw at Wolves is one of their most impressive results of the season so far.

Wolves have swept aside almost all before them this term, but they could not break down Sunderland’s resolute defensive line.

The Black Cats were solid at the back, even with ten men after Lee Cattermole’s sending off, and picked up a highly credible point.

Sunderland still remain in the relegation zone, but their performance at Molineux sent further encouragement that Coleman is making an impact at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland are next in action when they take on Fulham at the weekend.
