James Vaughan scored for Sunderland during their 2-0 win over Burton Albion.
Vaughan came on as a substitute during Sunderland’s victory on Saturday, and he scored the North East side’s first goal in the contest.
The striker has struggled to find form since moving to the Stadium of Light, and he has hit the back of the net for the Black Cats on just two occasions.
And Coleman admits that things have been tough on Wearside for Vaughan.
The new Sunderland boss said: “It hasn’t been easy for him since he arrived at Sunderland – it hasn’t been easy for anybody.
“Everyone has had a tough time, and it’s not easy to come into that environment, but he still has that capacity to unsettle defenders and he was outstanding when he came on.”
Vaughan’s celebration when he did score against Burton said it all, as he cupped his ears towards the Sunderland supporters in attendance.
The former Everton may has taken a lot of stick for his performances, which have disappointed to date.
Vaughan could now feature again for Sunderland when they are next in action against Reading on Saturday.
If the Black Cats are able to win that fixture they could move out of the relegation zone, which would be a major boost for Coleman’s new side.
