Sunderland striker Josh Maja has featured in both matches which Chris Coleman has taken charge of this season.

Chris Coleman has told the Shields Gazette that he has already been very impressed by Sunderland youngster Josh Maja.

Maja has featured in both of Sunderland’s matches so far since Coleman took charge, with the Welsh boss clearly rating the forward.

And Coleman insists that Maja has taken it all in his stride so far, as he looks to make an impact for Sunderland’s first-team.

“He’s a good goalscorer and he’s impressed me with what I’ve seen so far,” Coleman said.

“It’s a bit early for us in terms of his fitness, but yeah he looks okay that boy. At that age they can look good with their age group but then when they come up against the men as it were, they’re not as comfortable with that environment.

“But for what I’ve seen of him, he’s not put off by that at all.”

Maja has missed part of the season with injury, but appears to be coming back to fitness now.

There is certainly room for another goalscorer in Sunderland’s squad, as Lewis Grabban needs some support.

Grabban has scored 10 goals this term, but he has not been backed up by his teammates at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland have improved under Coleman already, and won against Burton Albion in their last outing.

Sunderland are next in action on on Saturday, when they take on Reading at the Stadium of Light.
