Tottenham Hotspur claimed a win in the first game after Jose Mourinho’s sacking by beating Southampton 2-1 on Wednesday evening.

Spurs sacked Mourinho on Monday morning, surprising everyone by parting ways just days before the Carabao Cup final.

Ryan Mason is in charge until the summer, and was in charge for the win over Southampton, though did see his side fall behind to a Danny Ings opener.

Spurs were dire in the first half but much improved after the break, with Gareth Bale and Son Heung-min finding the net to turn the game on its head.

Spurs can be happy with the win, but Mason will be looking for more from his players in the cup final against Manchester City this weekend.

One player who wasn’t quite at his best was £27m midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, who was deployed in a number 10 role behind Lucas Moura.

Pundit Chris Coleman told Sky Sports (21/04, 7:30pm) that he felt Lo Celso was behind the tempo of the game throughout.

Coleman criticised Coleman for taking too long on the ball and wanting too many touches, believing the Argentinian’s lack of sharpness was down to not playing much football lately.

“You can see there, it’s Lo Celso again,” said Coleman. “He’s just a little bit behind the tempo of the game, he wants a bit longer than he’s got in possession of the ball, and that’s because he hasn’t had a lot of game time. He’s taking too long on the ball,” he added.
