Chris Coleman has confirmed that Sunderland are closing in on their signing in January.
Sunderland manager Chris Coleman has confirmed that the Black Cats are edging closer to complete their third signing of the January transfer window.
Coleman has revealed that he is close to signing one player, but that player is not expected to arrive at Wearside until Wednesday.
The Sunderland boss has been on the lookout for a striker and an attacking midfielder. The Black Cats are also looking to sign a goalkeeper before the deadline.
Coleman said that he is 99 per cent certain of at least one more addition before the window closes. He mentioned that one player is definitely arriving, and that he is hoping for one more after that.
“I think we’re 99 per cent certain there’ll be one in between now and Wednesday. Obviously there are games tomorrow, so with respect to the player and the club he’s at, there’s nothing more we can say really,” said Coleman, as quoted by the Sunderland Echo.
“That won’t happen until Wednesday morning, subject to medicals. I’m still hoping and praying it’ll be one more after that. “We have to concentrate on Birmingham, that’s the priority – but we’ll try to add in these last days to what we’ve got.
“I would say definitely one, and hopefully two. Everything is agreed, but there’s football to be played between now and then.”
The Black Cats have been linked with Andy Lonergan of Leeds United, but the Whites need to first sign a replacement before they sanction his departure.
Young and exciting Manchester City striker Lukas Nmecha is also another target. The 19-year-old made his first team debut for Pep Guardiola against Leicester City last month.
However, one player who is definitely not joining is Chris Martin from Derby County. According to reports from Sunderland Echo, the Black Cats have pulled out of the deal following delay from the player over a decision.
