Sunderland are set to welcome back Jonny Williams from injury in the near future.

Chris Coleman has told Sunderland’s official website that Jonny Williams is closing in on a return to training.

Williams has not featured in any of Sunderland’s last nine matches, as his injury problems continue to plague him.

The attacking imdifelder has found it difficult to stay off the treatment table throughout his career, and his campaign has been stop-start again this time around.

However, Coleman insists that Williams is closing in on a comeback, and he is looking forward to welcoming the creator back into his side.

“Some good news is that Jonny Williams is probably another week or so away before he can start joining in. That’s really good news,” Coleman said.

Coleman has bemoaned Sunderland’s bad luck with injuries this week, so Williams’ recovery will be a huge boost to him.

Sunderland currently have 11 players out with injury, meaning Coleman’s squad is being sternly tested.

The Black Cats have lacked quality, even with everyone available, so their current injury crisis is hardly aiding their survival battle.

Sunderland are currently stuck at the bottom of the Championship table, with their next match coming against Cardiff City at the weekend.
