Sunderland striker James Vaughan has scored just two goals for the club to date.
Coleman has confirmed that Sunderland must sell before they can buy in January, as he currently has no transfer funds available.
Vaughan has been one of the players who has been linked with a move away from the Stadium of Light in recent times.
However, Coleman claims that his options are short up-front that he cannot consider letting Vaughan go.
“Imagine we sold James Vaughan right now (he has been linked with Wigan Athletic),” Coleman said.
“There will be interest in a few of our players but we couldn’t at the minute let James go. We only have Josh (Maja) and Joel (Asoro as alternative strikers). We can’t go to the end of the season with just two young players.”
Vaughan has endured a difficult time at Sunderland, since joining in the summer transfer window from Bury.
The 29-year-old was a prolific scorer at League One level last term, but he has struggled to find the back of the net with any regularity this time around.
Vaughan has got his name on the scoresheet just twice in his first 24 appearances for Sunderland, which has led to suggestions that he could depart.
Sunderland were beaten 1-0 by Barnsley yesterday, as they slipped back into the Championship’s relegation zone.
