Sunderland manager Chis Coleman comments on Jack Rodwell’s future at the club.
Sunderland manager Chris Coleman has more or less confirmed that Jack Rodwell has no future at the club, and has urged him to move on.
The 26-year-old is yet to feature in the Sky Bet Championship since September, and has not made a senior appearance since Coleman took charge at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland have offered to rip up Rodwell’s £70,000-per-week contract and allow him to leave the club for free, but the former Everton midfielder is not prepared to walk away from his future earnings.
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, he said that he is fit and raring to go if Coleman decides to use him in the first team squad.
However, ahead of Sunderland’s upcoming Championship game against Hull City, Coleman has made it clear that Rodwell has told him that he doesn’t want to play for the club.
“Jack doesn’t want to play for Sunderland, he has told me that. If Jack goes somewhere else and plays every game I will be happy for Jack because he is 26 and there’s a career there,” said Coleman.
This comes as a contradiction to what the player has said in his interview with the Daily Mail. Rodwell is a popular figure at the club, and the fans took to Twitter to express their sentiments on the subject.
