Sunderland are set to offload a number of players, as Chris Coleman looks to upgrade his squad.

Chris Coleman has told the Sunderland Echo that Jack Rodwell and Didier N’Dong could both leave the Stadium of Light this month.

Rodwell and N’Dong have both fallen out of favour at Sunderland since Coleman took charge, with the Welsh boss clearly having reservations about using either of the pair.

With the Black Cats now looking to raise funds to make room for additions of their own, Coleman has admitted that a number of Sunderland’s fringe players are up for sale.

And Coleman has named Rodwell and N’Dong as two players who definitely could depart Wearside in the coming weeks.

“Obviously, a couple of them may not be with us – Ndong, Rodwell, we don’t know – so [midfield] it is a position we need a bit of cover in certainly,” Coleman said.

N’Dong is currently being linked with a move to Premier League side, Watford, and will be worth considerably more than Rodwell.

N’Dong has shown signs of promise during his time at Sunderland, although his move will ultimately be viewed as a failure.

Rodwell, meanwhile, will go down as one of Sunderland’s worst signings of all time.

The former Manchester City man has found things very difficult ever since moving to the Stadium of Light, and his costly contract has meant that Coleman’s side have found it difficult to find a buyer for the ex-England international midfielder.
