West Brom fell to a heavy defeat at the Hawthorns.

Chris Brunt has admitted that he was disappointed to hear the reaction of some of the West Bromwich Albion fans that were at the Hawthorns for their defeat to Manchester City at the weekend, the Birmingham Mail reports.

Two goals each from Sergio Aguero and Ilkay Gundogan saw the Citizens leave the Midlands with the three points, and prompted some of the home supporters to jeer at the likes of Darren Fletcher and Jonas Olsson.

And Brunt – who, of course, was involved in an incident with a fan during a cup tie with Reading last season – suggested that the supporters were wrong to single the pair out during the defeat.

“We’re as frustrated as anybody the game’s not going our way and we’re not creating what we wanted,” he said, as reported by the Mail.

“To single out individuals for extra criticism or whatever, I don’t think it’s on.

“For players like Jonas and Darren, experienced pros who have given a lot to this club – Jonas over a long period of time and Fletcher in the last 18 months – and the careers they’ve had, it’s disappointing to see.”

It is hardly surprising that some of the Baggies’ supporters were left disgruntled at the weekend. While they were always going to be underdogs against Pep Guardiola’s side, the fact that Tony Pulis’ men offered so little in reply would have unquestionably been frustrating.

After picking up just two wins in their opening 10 games, West Brom are now just three points above the bottom three.

And with their next handful of games pitting them against sides that are within just a few places of them, the supporters will be hoping that their vocal discontent inspires the side to find some much better form in the coming weeks.
