Norwich legend Darren Huckerby hilariously issued a jibe at Arsenal on Twitter after rumours emerged from the weekend that Aston Villa have beaten them to the signing of Emi Buendia.

The Telegraph reported that Aston Villa will complete a club-record £33 million transfer for the quick-footed playmaker, who was also high on Arsenal’s wishlist.

It’s a body blow to Arsenal if Buendia does indeed swap Carrow Road for Villa Park because, before the summer transfer window has already got going, it seems as though they are already on the back foot.

Of course, any twist or turns can happen during a transfer, but it does seem as though Villa have won the race for Buendia’s signature.

And Huckerby issued this ‘bigger club’ claim after a fan suggested that he can now give Arsenal fans stick for missing out on his creative talents.

It will be interesting to see what Arsenal do from here on in and how they bring in that much-needed creative player.

If those in the Arsenal boardroom cannot bring in a player from the Championship then it begs the question as to what response they will get if they push for a player of higher calibre and standing.

But from Villa’s perspective, it’s quite the start to the summer transfer window, as fans will now be dreaming of watching both Buendia and Jack Grealish put opposition defenders on their backsides next season.

It’s also a credit to the Villa owners, who have done nothing but back Dean Smith ever since he stepped foot into the club.

From being mid-table in the Championship to now pushing for Europe, those in B6 are back on their feet and on the rise again.
