Chivas midfielder Carlos Pena will join Rangers, according to his manager Matias Almeyda.
Mexico midfielder Carlos Pena
Chivas Guadalajara manager Matias Almeyda has told Televisa Deportes that midfielder Carlos Pena is all set to join Rangers this summer.
Rangers are working hard to bring in new signings, and whilst the focus has been on Cagliari defender Bruno Alves and Aberdeen midfielder Ryan Jack, manager Pedro Caixinha appears to have another ace up his sleeve.
Caixinha had a spell in charge of Mexican side Santos Laguna earlier in his managerial career, and he has gone back to Mexico in order to bring in a new signing for Rangers.
Carlos Pena
The Daily Record reported earlier today that a deal has been set up for the Gers to sign Chivas Guadalajara midfielder Carlos Pena, with a three-year deal on offer.
It was claimed that Pena was flying to Glasgow in order to rubber-stamp his move to Scotland, in a potentially fascinating move for Caixinha and the Gers as the Portuguese boss looks to strengthen his midfield.

Pena, 27, turned out for Pachuca and Club Leon before joining Guadalajara in 2016, and whilst he hit eight goals in 31 games from midfield for the club, he was loaned back to Club Leon in December 2016.
Now set to leave Guadalajara for good, Pena – who has been nicknamed after Dutch legend Ruud Gullit – will hope to settle down with Rangers, having been criticised for his off-field lifestyle in Mexico.
Matias Almeyda
This evening, Guadalajara boss Matias Almeyda has told Televisa Deportes that the deal is almost done, admitting that Pena is leaving to join Rangers so he can experience another league, helping him grow on and off the pitch.
“He is leaving so that he can have the experience of playing in another league, in another country,” said Almeyda. “It will help him in his growth as a player and as a person,” he added.
