Tottenham Hotspur are seemingly winning the race to sign Memphis Depay.

Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo reported on Sunday that Depay will be leaving Barcelona this summer – and Tottenham are favourites to get the Netherlands international.

If Spurs do indeed bring him to North London, it won’t be the Dutchman’s first time in the Premier League.

Depay has had a previous spell with Manchester United and, well, overall it probably could’ve gone better.

The 28-year-old only scored two Premier League goals during an 18-month spell at Manchester United between 2015 and 2017.

It was Jose Mourinho who sold him to Lyon five years ago.

And although the Portuguese, speaking years later, praised his professionalism despite media reports that he was anything but, Mourinho did label him ‘childish’.

He told talkSPORT last summer: “Sometimes they can go too early to the biggest clubs where they are not ready to cope with it. Where they are not ready to understand that in the biggest clubs there are internal competition, that you can not play all the time.

“That there are fantastic players to fight with you for a position. They can lose a little sense of reality and become a bit childish. Which is what happened.”

Depay might’ve been ‘childish’ during his time at Old Trafford.

However, we’re talking about a 28-year-old now and there’s no doubt that he’s a much more mature footballer.

After all, his Red Devils spell hasn’t held him back any, given that he’s now at Barcelona.

As a footballer and as a professional, Depay would be coming back to England a different player if Tottenham do wind up signing him.
