Barnsley loanee Daryl Dike is a “$20 million (£14.5 million) player” amid reported interest from Everton, Leeds United and West Ham, MLS commissioner Don Garber has said in quotes reported by AS USA.
Could Bayern Munich wonderkid Alphonso Davies lose his place in the history books to a striker plying his trade in South Yorkshire?
Since joining dark horses Barnsley on loan from Orlando City in January, Dike has been a man possessed, scoring eight goals in 14 games while leaving fans, pundits and opposition defenders open-mouthed.
And he’s only just getting started.
If Barnsley do fall short in their quest for Premier League football, there will be no shortage of top-flight clubs willing to step in.
EuroSport claims scouts working on behalf of Everton have been very impressed by a powerhouse number nine likened to former Toffees star Romelu Lukaku by Tykes teammate Jordan Williams.
TEAMtalk, meanwhile, states West Ham, Newcastle, Wolves and Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds have also been watching closely.
And, according to Garber, there’s a chance Dike could soon replace Alphonso Davies as the most expensive export in Major League Soccer history.

“He is a $20 million player,” says Garber.
“That’s a guy with whom I hope we can even set new records that go beyond what we achieved with Alphonso Davies.”
Barnsley have an option-to-buy clause in Dike’s contract, allowing them to sign the red-hot striker for £17 million.
But, even if Valerien Ismael’s ravenous band of underdogs secure a return to the big time after 23 years away, Dike may be a little bit too expensive for them.
