Werder Bremen are already expecting more speculation about the future of Aston Villa linked winger Milot Rashica when the January transfer window opens, as reported by Deich Stube.

After months of relentless discussion and a ‘will he, won’t he’ saga that felt nigh-on never-ending, Werder fans everywhere breathed an almighty sigh of relief when the transfer window finally slammed shut last Monday.

Not that the respite will last for long.

Rashica was indeed keen to leave a club who only secured their Bundesliga status via a relegation play-off triumph over Eintracht Braunschweig but, quite simply, an acceptable deal just could not be agreed in time.

The Birmingham Mail reported that Aston Villa triggered the £20.5 million release clause in the Kosovan’s contract, but were less enamoured by the prospect of handing him the £75,000-a-week contract he wanted.

With just ten weeks until the transfer window swings open again, Rashica won’t be out of the papers for long.

“There has been a great deal of speculation about this person. I think it’s normal that this doesn’t pass him by without a trace,” said former Germany international Fritz, Werder’s head of professional football.

“He’s an extremely important player who brings added value for us. What happens then in winter, we can talk about when the time comes.”

With the exception of perhaps Chelsea, Everton and Tottenham, Aston Villa were arguably the most successful of any Premier League club in the 2020 summer market, signing five new players capable of immediately improving their starting XI.

A pocket-rocket of a winger with a fine goal-scoring record, the prospect of Rashica linking up with Jack Grealish, Ross Barkley and Ollie Watkins should have Premier League defences quaking.
