Could Chelsea defender John Terry be part of the Aston Villa team next season?
Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness has told The Birmingham Mail that the club have discussed whether or not to make a move for John Terry in the summer transfer window.
Terry is on the books of Chelsea at the moment, but the defender will leave the Premier League club at the end of the season and will become a free agent.
Villa chief executive Wyness told The Birmingham Mail: “You could put us on a list of clubs who would look at John.
“But I don’t think we would be the right solution for him personally. It’s something we’ve had a chat about but I don’t think it will come of anything to be honest.”
Blockbuster signing
Terry is one of the greatest defenders in Premier League history, probably the best ever, and signing the former England international would be a massive coup for Villa.
Given that the Villans are in the Championship and Terry has just won the Premier League title with Chelsea, it would be one of the headline-making signings of the summer.
Steve Bruce’s side do need to sign a centre-back, and the presence of Terry in defence would make a massive difference.
Unlikely
Terry has played in the Premier League his entire professional career, and it is hard to see the defender move down a division.
The Chelsea star would still be able to do a decent job in the top flight of English football, and it will come as a big surprise if he joins a Championship club in the summer.
