Atletico, PSG and Chelsea have made it clear they aren’t interested in Barcelona’s Andre Gomes – which should encourage Spurs to have second thoughts.

There are more than a few warning signs for Tottenham Hotspur if they are to renew their interest in Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes in the January transfer window.
One, the Portugal international has been subjected to almost relentless criticism since arriving at the Camp Nou from Valencia in 2016. Two, Gomes has hardly impressed when handed a rare opportunity by Barca boss Ernesto Valverde this season.
And, three, it appears that clubs are dropping out of the race like flies. Don Balon reports that Barcelona would be more than happy to cash in on Gomes during the January transfer window but three of Europe’s biggest clubs have made it clear that they are not interested.

The report claims that Atletico Madrid, PSG and Spurs’ London rivals Chelsea do not want Gomes – even if The Sun reports that Barca are ready to let the 24-year-old go on a cut-price deal worth around £20 million.
This may be seen as a boost for Tottenham, who The Sun claims want to sign Gomes in January after seeing a move fall through in the summer due to Barca’s failure to sign a replacement.

On the other hand, however, the fact that there is a real lack of interest in Gomes speaks volumes about how much his reputation has suffered since he made that ill-fated move to Catalonia over a year ago.
Gomes clearly needs a fresh start after struggling to make the grade at one of football’s most expectant and demanding clubs. Though Spurs should perhaps see the lack of competition as a warning sign rather than an opportunity.
