Aston Villa really need Chelsea to add a top striker, but it’s not looking too good.
It’s easy to run out of superlatives when discussing Aston Villa star Tammy Abraham.
The young striker has scored for fun for Villa on loan this season and fired them into a play-off spot.
Abraham is a player Aston Villa would dearly love to keep.
For that to happen, they need Chelsea to be satisfied with their own striker options.
The signing of Gonzalo Higuaín on loan in January was a promising sign, but this now appears unlikely to be made permanent.
Chelsea have an option to sign Higuaín permanently from Juventus for £31.3 million, BBC Sport reported.
Italian outlet TMW report Chelsea have decided not to take this up permanently. Juventus are even claimed to be working on a swap proposal with Inter Milan for wantaway striker Mauro Icardi.
None of this is good for Villa’s chances of keeping Abraham, who has made clear he wants to play at the top level.
Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud’s contract expires in June and he has signalled his intention to leave, via SkySports.
Abraham is a player Chelsea fans want to see lead the line for them, as reward for his terrific performances for Aston Villa.
Sadly for Villa, if he leads them to promotion or not, they are likely to be seeking a replacement this summer.
