The on-loan Chelsea defender Michael Hector has told BBC Radio Sheffield he already feels like a permanent Sheffield Wednesday player.

Hector joined Wednesday on a season-long deal at the end of August, his fourth such spell since he signed for Chelsea in 2015.

It has taken the best part of three months for the 26-year-old’s family, which now includes a young son, to follow him to Sheffield.

And he hopes, at least for their sake, that an extended stay follows next summer.

“Yeah, definitely (it is important to be settled),” said the reigning Owls player of the month. “Obviously I have a son now, so it’s important for my family to be settled as well.

“For me it’s easy to move here, there and everywhere, but obviously when you’ve got a family you need to set roots and a foundation to build from.

“For me it’s important that every loan I go to I have the ambition of staying at the club, or to want to see where it goes, if it does go any further.

“For me coming here, whatever happens, happens at the end of the season, but any time I come on loan I put 100 per cent into it – it feels like my club that I’m signed to permanently.

“For me it’s not a loan it’s a permanent until otherwise.”

Hector has become an instant hit with the Sheffield Wednesday supporters, despite being at fault for his fair share of goals conceded by the Owls in recent weeks.

The east Londoner, who has appeared 10 times for Jos Luhukay’s side ahead of Bolton Wanderers’ visit to Hillsborough on Tuesday, is out of contract at Chelsea at the end of next season.

Should Sheffield Wednesday sign the Chelsea defender permanently if an opportunity presents itself?
