Chelsea are reportedly still looking to sign Dinamo Moscow talent and rumoured Liverpool target Arsen Zakharyan despite months of chasing and a deal collapsing in the summer transfer window.
According to the Evening Standard, the Blues remain in pursuit to sign the 19-year-old Russian international after agreeing to a £12m move in the summer for Zakharyan, only for FIFA and UEFA restrictions to see a transfer fall through due to the ongoing Russia’s involvement in the war on Ukraine.
As per the report, Zakharyan is in talks about obtaining Armenian citizenship in order to sign for Chelsea, however, the Football Federation of Armenia will not engage in contact with the youngster, who could be stuck in Russia for the time being.
Zakharyan is regarded by many as one of the most exciting talents to come out of Russia in quite some time, with KPRU linking the attacking midfielder with a move to Liverpool as TeamTalk claim that Everton and Manchester City are also chasing the teenage talent.

A four-cap international with Russia, Zakharyan’s club future could well be in doubt given new rulings from FIFA and UEFA that bans Russians from leaving their homeland, and for Chelsea and Liverpool, this could mean waiting quite a while to sign the midfielder.
Indeed, there’s no denying that Zakharyan is a promising talent who would be quite the signing for Chelsea or Liverpool, but given the new logistical challenges in trying to bring the midfielder outside of Russia, the Premier League giants might be better off ending their chase for the 19-year-old.
Zakharyan signing not worth the hassle for Chelsea or Liverpool

Russia’s bloody and senseless war on Ukraine has cast a dark cloud over their country, with their new reputation seeping it’s way into football in a strict manner, and as a result, Chelsea and Liverpool should end their chase to sign Zakharyan given the challenges that lay ahead of them.
After all, signing any player from Russia now will be a huge challenge for any club regardless of their size and financial muscle, and for Chelsea and Liverpool, they’re much better off moving on to other targets ahead of the January transfer window.
