West Ham United are interested in signing Chelsea striker Armando Broja – but he is now being backed to replace Romelu Lukaku at Stamford Bridge.
The Hammers yet again left a transfer window without signing a striker in what is becoming a rather ridiculous situation.
West Ham didn’t replace Sebastien Haller in January 2021 and didn’t do it in the summer transfer window either.
Despite being linked with a number of strikers, West Ham again didn’t bring in new attacking firepower in this January.
One of the names linked was Broja, who is currently on loan at Southampton from Chelsea – a situation which complicated any January move anyway.
The Daily Mail claim that West Ham fancy signing Broja in a move that could actually take place this summer.
Chelsea soon face a decision on Broja. The 20-year-old is impressing on loan at Southampton, bagging seven goals in 21 games for the Saints.
The Albanian international has shown he can be a quality Premier League striker, but whether he will be given the chance at Chelsea remains to be seen.
After all, even Tammy Abraham had to leave Chelsea due to a lack of opportunities.
West Ham may be able to offer a bigger role to Broja, but Chelsea are being urged to consider him as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku’s future remains a question, and former Vitesse Arnhem ace Thomas Bruns has backed Broja to take his role at Chelsea.

Bruns played alongside Broja at Vitesse and has now been speaking about the striker to Voetbalzone over in the Netherlands.
Bruns noted that Broja’s numbers at Vitesse weren’t incredible, but he showed so much more than just goals.
The Dutchman maybe didn’t expect a huge transfer fee for Broja, but now thinks he can handle the pressure of replacing Lukaku.
“I did not expect thirty million, but I did expect that he would end up at a good club,” said Bruns. “He sees Mason Mount as his example. He has also done well at Vitesse and is now a regular player at Chelsea.”
“Not shocking numbers, but beyond those ten goals he has shown what qualities he has. A new striker will have to come if Lukaku eventually makes a next step. I think he could handle that,” he added.
