Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri as American owner Todd Boehly looks to build for the Blues’ future.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, the west London official is keen to add to Chelsea’s academy with the goal of having the first team in 2030 being composed of 25% academy players, with Boehly hoping to do this by signing some of England’s best and most exciting talents, with Nwaneri on the list.

The 15-year-old prospect became the youngest player ever to feature in a Premier League match earlier this year with Nwaneri featuring for Arsenal in mid-season friendlies this December against AC Milan and Juventus, with the youngster expected to make even more appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side in 2023.

Whilst Nwaneri is yet to sign a professional contract with Arsenal, there is an expectation that the youngster will commit his future with the north London club when the opportunity arises, with Arteta showing that he is willing to play academy players if they prove good enough to start for the senior squad.

Bukayo Saka has been one of Arsenal’s best players in recent years with Emile Smith Rowe also a regular when fully fit, and many Arsenal fans are eager for Nwaneri to join this exciting group of Hale End graduates in the years to come, even with Chelsea looking at signing the youngster.

Indeed, Arsenal have already lost one youth prospect to the Blues this year in Omari Hutchinson. But with the Jamaica international yet to play a single minute of professional football for Chelsea, Nwaneri might be better off signing with Arsenal for the long-term rather than switching clubs.

Nwaneri is on the path to becoming a regular with Arsenal as the teenage midfielder continues to steal headlines for his incredible performances at youth level, and for Chelsea, Boehly is kidding himself if he thinks he can sign the England prospect.

After all, it is clear for many that Nwaneri has the potential to become a key player for Arsenal in the years to come, and whilst Chelsea have the funds to lure any player in the world, it’s obvious for many fans that the player’s development won’t hit the same heights should be remaining in north London with the Gunners.
