The Athletic claim on their deadline-day blog (31/01, 7.30PM) that West Brom are about to complete the loan signing of Chelsea talent Omari Hutchinson – with the Baggies seeing off competition from rock-bottom Wigan Athletic.

Hutchinson, 19, only joined Chelsea in the summer from Arsenal. But the star, who has been called up by Jamaica, has already made his first-team debut and has been on fire for Chelsea’s U21 side. West Brom are set to nab him.

In the 21’s, he has played 18 times for Chelsea’s second string – scoring six goals and laying on nine assists. That form has seen Graham Potter give him a chance. He came on for 22 minutes in the 1-0 League loss to Man City.

A few days later, he also featured in the FA Cup defeat to the Premier League champions. Now, he is set for a loan move – joining Carlos Corberan’s West Brom. He will hope to help the Baggies finish in the top six of the division.

West Brom about to complete loan signing of Chelsea talent Hutchinson

It is a great move for Hutchinson. But one that has been deserved. He made the right decision to leave Arsenal’s set-up and join Chelsea in the summer. It has given him a new lease of life and his form in the 21’s is remarkable.

That has seen Potter hand him a chance, like he has done with a number of other Chelsea youngsters. Lewis Hall is currently getting an extended run in the side at left-back. Now, he earns a really exciting loan to West Brom.

Whether he can break his way into Corberan’s promotion-chasing side on a regular basis remains to be seen. But he will get plenty of senior exposure during the second half of 22-23. A player Potter has described as “dangerous”.
