Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, a player Tottenham have been linked with for some time and who Antonio Conte is rumoured to desperately want.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the west London side have joined the growing race to sign the Croatian international, with Chelsea interested in signing Brozovic alongside the likes of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, with Tottenham also in the mix.

Valued at £35m according to CalcioMercatoWeb, Brozovic has been one of the best midfielders in Italy for quite some time, and with the Inter star now 30-years-old, the Serie A star could be considering a new challenge in Europe, which could mean a move to the Premier League.

Although Chelsea are unlikely to finish in the top-four this season, signing for the Blues remains a lucrative option for many top players, and with Graham Potter’s side in desperate need of a quality midfielder with plenty of experience, Brozovic could be ideal for the job.

Indeed, the news will come as a major shock and blow for Tottenham, with Conte one of Brozovic’s biggest fans and a coach who has been linked with the Croatian for numerous transfer windows. And Chelsea signing the Inter star would be a huge smack in the face for the north London side.

If Conte is to stay at Tottenham beyond this season, Brozovic would no doubt be a target for Spurs in the summer transfer window, and the Italian manager would be fuming at the likes of Daniel Levy if the Inter midfielder ends up signing for a Premier League rival.

Tottenham’s lack of backing Conte has been evident to see, with the Premier League-winning manager not being given what he rightly deserves when it comes to building the Spurs team he wants. And Brozovic signing for Chelsea could be the last straw.

As we know, Conte isn’t a manager who is willing to leave a club quietly in the middle of the night, and the Italian could opt to quit Tottenham if things in the summer don’t go his way, such as Brozovic signing for a London rival despite how strongly Spurs have been linked with the midfielder.
