Chelsea are reportedly struggling to sign Borussia Monchengladbach attacker Marcus Thuram, with the France international also being chased by the likes of Arsenal this January.

According to journalist Dean Jones, the Blues are facing some issues in trying to sign the 25-year-old forward, with Thuram a player who has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League as Chelsea have seemingly emerged as the favourites in recent days.

Jones said when asked about the west London side’s pursuit of Thuram: “I think it has something in it, but there are complications in terms of how and when they could actually convince Borussia Monchengladbach to go ahead with a deal like this.”

Chelsea have already made headlines this weekend by beating Arsenal to the signing of Mykhailo Mudryk as reported by the Athletic, with the Ukrainian international set to join Graham Potter’s side in a €100m (£88m) deal despite seemingly agreeing to join the north London side earlier in the week.

However, Chelsea are now struggling to sign another attacker this month in the form of Thuram, who according to Milan Live is also wanted by Arsenal as the Gunners look to bring in more firepower in their quest to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League.

Indeed, Chelsea missing out on Thuram might be for the bet given the pending arrival of Mudryk. And for Arsenal, signing the Gladbach superstar and Blues target could be a great way to both move past missing out on the Shakhtar Donetsk winger as well as to get one over their English rivals.

The Mudryk saga has been one of the most dramatic and bombastic European football has seen in some time. Yet with Chelsea walking away the winners, Arsenal could now find themselves with an excuse to sign Thuram, who could be a great addition for the north London side.

A natural left-sided winger with who this season has thrived as a centre-forward, Thruam ticks a lot of boxes that Arsenal are looking for in an attacker this January. And with Chelsea now going all-in on Mudryk, the France international could be a great alternative for the Gunners.
