Graham Potter’s Chelsea are interested in signing Newcastle United target Anthony Gordon from Everton in the January transfer window, according to The Telegraph.
Chelsea plan bid for Newcastle target Anthony Gordon
The report has claimed that Chelsea are considering making a bid for Gordon.
Newcastle are reported to be interested in the 21-year-old English winger.
Chelsea are considering submitting a bid for Gordon now, agreeing to a deal, and then letting the England Under-21 international stay on loan at Everton for the rest of the season.
Could the plan work?
In our view, Chelsea’s plan regarding Anthony Gordon – described as “a player who is very explosive” by former Everton manager Rafael Benitez in The Liverpool Echo in October 2021 – could work.
The former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners are well stocked in wide areas.
And they recently signed Mykhailo Mudryk.

So, it is not as if Chelsea are desperate for another winger.
On the other hand, Newcastle cannot afford to sign a player for big money and then let him stay away on loan.
After all, the Magpies are in a very good position to finish in the Premier League top four this season.
Everton themselves could be open to the idea of getting good money in for Gordon now and still having him at their disposal for the rest of the season.
Remember, the Toffees are in danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season, and they cannot afford to lose important players in the middle of the campaign.
